Cori Cook Floral Design | Denver Floral Design

December 30, 2014

It is always so nice when we get to spend time with some of our favorite vendors in the industry. I spent the day with Cori and her team, watching them create their magic behind the scenes, and of course talking about our favorite boy bands. Take a peek at our interview with Cori Cook Floral Design.

Tell me a little about yourself

I am Cori!  I am 31 and live in Wheat Ridge, CO with my husband and we are expecting our first baby at the end of January!  I grew up moving around the United States and went to college in Southern California, where I met my husband.  We love living in Colorado!  My passions include flowers (ha…obvious!), friends & family, our church, adventure, travel, hiking/being outdoors, and overall just enjoying life.

What made you get started in floral design?

A few years after college, I felt like there was this creative side of me that was largely untapped.  I decided floral design school would be a fun way to tap into that creative side.  I really never expected to love it so much, but I did.  So I immediately started offering to do friends’ wedding flowers.  I loved that too and eventually realized that I could make a living out of this passion and started Cori Cook Floral Design!

Tell me about your bride, who is she?

Our bride!  While we work with lots of different personality types, our bride is one who loves flowers and puts a high value on them for her wedding.  Flowers are usually the thing she is most excited about in the planning process.  Our brides are generally more design-savvy or have hired planners who are.  We also love working with brides that are excited about their future marriages!

Your designs are amazing, where does your inspiration come from?

Our design inspiration comes from a lot of places.  Our biggest inspiration is our relationship with God, the best Creator there ever was…We’re very aware that every creative talent is a gift that’s been given and is a reflection of his Love at work in our lives.  We also have a very creative staff with interests in all area of design, so I feel like I am daily inspired by their unique passions like calligraphy, photography, dance, music, etc.  Otherwise, travel, art, and even window displays inspire us.  We try hard to look for inspiration outside of the Pinterest/wedding blog world, so that our art is original and inspiring.

Do you have any advice for newly engaged couples?

My biggest piece of advice would be to plan for your marriage as intently as you plan your wedding.  Your wedding, while important (we’ll be the first ones to say that!) lasts a day.  Your marriage should last a lifetime.  Sign up for premarital counseling, do a pre marriage class, ask and ponder the hard questions of communication, family origin, sex, finances…Invest in your future marriage.  It will bring your closer and a couple and make your wedding day even more impactful.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Guilty pleasure?  Right now, white chocolate peppermint mocha frappachinos from Starbucks…but I’m pregnant.  So don’t judge.

What is your favorite part of the design process?

My favorite part of the design process is designing bouquets and centerpieces.  Every week and every design is different and presents a challenge, and that keeps me from feeling bored.  Instead, I feel alive when I put together the first centerpiece or bouquet.  After the 25th, I don’t mind a break (:  I also love walking away from a successful wedding install and feeling a genuine adrenaline rush and high on life.  I know we all feel this way and it helps us to know that we are doing exactly what we’re supposed to be doing.

How would you describe your style?

Our style is bold, romantic, and lush.  We really believe that in almost all cases, bigger is better, so skimpy is not the name of our game.  Our arrangements take on a wild and free shape and we love pairing romantic blooms with unique greens, berries, branches, and other textures.
