Kristen & Dan

The Barn at Raccoon Creek Wedding, Littleton Wedding Photographer

After photographingtheir fun camping adventure session, I couldn’t wait for their wedding at The Barn at Raccoon Creek Wedding Venue.

Kristen and Dan were a very non-traditional couple during their wedding and we loved it! They focused on doing things that day how they wanted them done. Their wedding day wasn’t about trying to appease so many different opinions; it was truly about celebrating them as a couple.

In the beginning of the day, Dan and his groomsmen, were playing games together before getting ready. Sometimes I look through images and wonder what the heck in happening in that room. This was one of those day. These guys are hilarious. Kristen’s mom had given her a rabbit in college that she still sleeps with every night. I’m told Dan tries to steal it from her regularly. This cute ragged bunny played a big part in the story of her getting ready on her wedding day.

Kristen and Dan chose to have a First Look. I truly believe this gives a couple a chance to have a deliberately intimate moment before their ceremony that can otherwise be missed in the hustle and bustle of a wedding day. During a First Look, it’s important that a couple face each other so they get the same emotional reaction they would have if they were walking down the aisle towards each other.

After we were finished with their First Look behind the barn, instead of hurrying inside so her guests wouldn’t see her in her wedding dress, Kristen wanted to stay outside and personally greet her guests. She wasn’t caught up in not being seen or creating a surprise. She wanted to see everyone who had come to celebrate with her and Dan.

For their ceremony, Kristen and Dan chose to walk down the aisle together. It was a great indicator of their relationship and the true partnership Kristen and Dan have. They were so excited to walk down the aisle together. It was an incredible moment.

Dan’s best man said something during his toast that still sticks with me and I think is one my favorite things that has ever been said during a wedding toast. He told Kristen and Dan to tell each other every day what “the rose, the thorn, and the bud” was for their days. The thorn is something that didn’t go quite right or something that was difficult. The rose is something that went right or something that you did well that day. The bud was something that you were looking forward to the next day. I think it’s really great advice about learning about your partner’s day and keeping good communication with them throughout your marriage.

Kristen and Dan chose not to do a first dance so as not be the center of attention but shared a special dancing moment while everyone was dancing around them. They were able to truly enjoy the wedding day without so many formalities. One of my favorite parts of the day was during the reception and watching Dan hilariously dance to Miley Cyrus’ ‘Party in the USA.’ I couldn’t stop laughing!

After all, that’s what a wedding as beautiful as Kristen and Dan’s is all about – the beginning of a beautiful marriage between two of the sweetest people.
