Little White Dress Denver

February 27, 2019

While at a WIPA event in January I ran into my friends from Little White Dress. We began talking about the new things they are up to, and then Kelly told me all about how they bring their sweet dogs with them to work on tuesdays, and at that point I knew I had to come spend the morning with them to meet these sweet dogs. Maria Elena Headpieces even sent some dog crowns for the photos.

Q: Introduce us to the dogs of Little White Dress.

-Indiana is a cattle dog/shepherd mix and her mom is Kelly, LWD’s Creative Director. Indy’s mom describes her as a once-in-a-lifetime pup who is smart (a little too smart sometimes), sensitive, and gives the best hugs.

-Marley is a free spirited golden retriever/yellow lab mix and her mom is Lauren, LWD’s Assistant Manager. Marley’s mom describes her as independent, very affectionate, and a total goof.

-Jake is a brave Yorkshire Terrier with an adventurous spirit who loves to snuggle. His mom is Deana, the Operations Coordinator at Little White Dress.

-Miley is a Maltese/Shi Tzu and is the sweet fur baby of Anna, LWD’s Manager. Miley is a total princess who thinks of herself as a human child more than a pup. She enjoys going on every adventure possible with her human companions – as long as she is being held and snuggled, she is happy!

Q: Tell us a little about Little White Dress. When did it all begin? What made you start it? Etc.

Our owner Cate Carpenter started LWD in 2008. Her dream was to introduce Colorado brides to amazing bridal fashion combined with approachable and memorable service. Since 2008, LWD has grown from a small boutique in Castle Rock to our current location in RiNo, an historic restored church with 9,000 square feet, 16 incredible employees, and a roster of the very best bridal designers.

Q: What is your favorite part of helping a bride find the perfect dress?

Helping women feel their best is hands down our favorite part of what we do. We truly believe in women empowering women. Getting to know our brides and their family and friends during such a special time in their lives is what keeps us going every day.

Q: When should brides begin shopping for their dress?

We tell brides to start shopping for their dress as soon as they are ready to find their dress, regardless of how soon or far the wedding may be. Brides typically don’t need to shop around and try on dozens and dozens of dresses over several months before finding the one (particularly when they have an experienced stylist helping them). Many brides are surprised to find their dress soon after they start looking, and it can be agonizing if they aren’t mentally or financially prepared to make that commitment. That all being said, after a bride purchases her dress, it does take around 4-5 months for her dress to arrive, and we recommend leaving at least two months for alterations before the wedding. To avoid stress and rush fees, we definitely advise choosing the dress at least 6 months before the wedding.

Q: Who do you recommend the bride bringing with her to her appointment?

We love when the bride brings a close group of people who truly support the bride wholeheartedly. That may be one person or it may be six (or the bride may prefer to shop on her own!), but regardless of who she brings, we want to make sure the bride’s voice is heard and she feels loved and supported while finding her dress.

Q: Any advice you have for brides looking for the perfect dress?

I’ll let you in on a little secret: the perfect dress doesn’t really exist. Just like the bride’s future husband or wife, a dress always has imperfections. It may have a wrinkle a few hours into the wedding, it may not check off every single thing on her wish list, it may not be what she would choose in 2 or 20 or 50 years. And that’s ok. The “perfect” dress is what makes the bride feel amazing now, and she’ll always love it despite its imperfections, because it will be what she wore on her wedding day. Our best advice in wedding dress shopping and in life is to let go of the quest for perfection, and to enjoy the experience.

Q: Anything else you’d like to add?

I’m guessing people may be surprised to know that some of us bring our dogs to work, since we’re a bridal salon. We’re lucky enough to have an upstairs office area where our pups love hanging out (many of us spend a lot of time in the office during weekdays while we’re processing orders, working on our marketing, and providing support to our team of stylists, among lots of other operational and management tasks). We take a lot of pride in our positive work environment, and it’s important to us that we all feel like a big family. Our dogs have come to be a part of our LWD family, and they bring us so much joy (which I’m sure will be obvious from your photos!!).
