Aspen Ice Skating Adventure Engagement Session
I can’t wait to share Jess & Ian’s Aspen Ice Skating Adventure Engagement Session in Aspen, Colorado—what an unforgettable experience! Aspen holds a very special place in Jess & Ian’s hearts. It’s where they spend much of their winters, surrounded by the beauty of the mountains and creating memories with family. From skiing and snowboarding to ice skating,
Aspen is where their love for each other and their family truly shines. When we were planning their adventure engagement session, we talked through all the things they love doing together. After considering several ideas, they landed on ice skating—something they do every time they’re in Aspen, especially with their family. It was the perfect choice to capture the joy of their relationship in a place that’s so meaningful to them.
The session took place the day after Christmas, and the weather could not have been more perfect. Aspen had transformed into a winter wonderland, with fresh snow gently falling around us, creating a magical atmosphere. The Silver Circle Ice Rink in downtown Aspen was the perfect backdrop for this adventurous engagement session. As we skated around the rink, we could see the majestic mountain peaks rising in the distance—truly a photographer’s dream.
There was an undeniable sense of warmth despite the cold, as Jess & Ian’s connection radiated in every moment.
After spending some time skating at the rink, we decided to take a little break. We popped over to CP Burger, a cozy spot right next to the rink, where we indulged in delicious adult milkshakes. There’s something about those little moments, shared with laughter and warmth, that really made the day feel extra special. It was a perfect blend of their playful side and the serene, beautiful surroundings of Aspen.
Once we finished up at CP Burger, we made our way to Jess’s parents’ condo in Snowmass. Family is everything to Jess, so it felt completely natural for her family to be part of this session. It was a wonderful, laid-back way to capture their love for one another while spending time in a place they cherish. At the condo, Jess got to work making some guacamole, while Ian whipped up drinks for everyone. The vibe was relaxed, cozy, and full of joy as we all hung out together.
One of the highlights of the evening was playing a few rounds of Telestrations, which is essentially a game of telephone through drawings. It was such a fun and hilarious game, filled with laughter and inside jokes. The moments we shared during those rounds really showed how much Jess & Ian enjoy spending quality time with the people they love. After we were all thoroughly entertained by the game, we sat down to an incredible homemade dinner cooked by Jess’s parents, Ray and Shauna. The meal was delicious, but the best part was the lively conversation and laughter that filled the room. Ray even showed us a few magic tricks, which had everyone in awe.
As the night wound down, I couldn’t help but feel so grateful for the time spent with Jess, Ian, and their families. It’s these shared moments, the connection and warmth between everyone, that make photographs so much more meaningful. The experience of getting to know the couple and their families before the wedding adds an entirely new layer to the images we create. It’s not just about capturing moments; it’s about telling a story that’s full of love, laughter, and real-life connections.
By the time I left their home and headed back to my little AirBnB in Basalt, I was filled with anticipation for their upcoming wedding day. I knew that spending more time with these wonderful people would make their wedding day even more special. The relationships we build throughout the process make capturing moments so much easier and so much more authentic. I feel incredibly lucky to witness and be part of these moments in such a meaningful way, and I cannot wait to see where Jess & Ian’s journey together takes them next.
